A crankset consists of one or more chainrings, left and right crank arms and the bottom bracket. Crank arms and/or the chainrings are constructed from either steel, chromoly, aluminium, titanium or carbon fibre, steel cranks are very durable and are the least expensive, however significant weight savings are made from using other materials. Aluminium is most commonly used on road and mountain bikes for lightweight, with titanium and carbon fibre used on more expensive race bikes, chromoly steel is commonly but not exclusively used on bmx bikes. Cranksets must integrated (fit) your bottom bracket.
