There are two types of bicycle stems; quill and threadless, threadless stems are most commonly used on road and mountain bikes and is a very simple way of micro-adjusting your bike as stems can be easily flipped or replaced, whereas quill stems are mostly used on hybrid bicycles. Threadless stems are available in lightweight aluminium and carbon-fibre.
