Disc brake-sets consists of a metal disc, referred to as a rotor which is affixed to the wheels hub, a disc-compatible hub is required to achieve this. The disc brake caliper is affixed to the fork or a mounting position on the rear chain-stay. There are two disc brake types, mechanical or hydraulic, hydraulic disc brakes are engaged by forcing / transfer of hydraulic fluid into the brake pistons chamber. Disc brakes are predominantly used on mountain bikes, however also are used on some hybrid and touring bicycles.
