29er mountain bike wheels are built using wide 700c rims which are larger than those typically used on 26" mountain bikes. Arguably better amongst many MTB cyclists for it's perceived increased ability to handle obstacles as the height of the bottom bracket is raised, however some cyclists say the benefits come at the cost of sacrificing lightweight, handling and loss of standover height.
