27" was the old British standard, the rim diameter was actually a mere 8mm larger than it's metric replacement 700c (622mm rim) most commonly used on today's road and hybrid bicycles, 27" wheels are not compatible frames designed for 700c wheels. Commonly used as replacement wheels for vintage bikes and are available in both durable steel and lightweight aluminium.
